Nash, wife of the Illinois Democratic leader, accompanied by two of her children, Mrs. George Ross and Thomas Nash, also Miss Nan OMalley and Mr. Ross, witnessed Saturdays program from the Nash box in the clubhouse. William Chickering, local sportsman, will make his first appearance of the meeting when he takes a party of friends to the west side course for the Chicago Derby next Saturday. Milky Way Farms Stables Not Asleep has been thrown out of training and will be sent to the farm of her owner near Pulaski, Tenn. With head trainer R. E. Potts remaining at Detroit, John Kermath saddled the Eomar Stables Billy Bee for the Hawthorne Sprint Handicap here Saturday. J. Bryson, who came from Detroit to ride the horse, returned to the Motor City, Sunday. Bob Mozer, one of the older riders here, left Sunday on a short vacation trip through New York State. Jockey H. Callahan, who is suffering from a severe attack of boils, again remained out of the saddle. He hopes to resume riding Monday. Mel Calvert, a recent addition to the Hawthorne riding colony, got into action when he piloted Damascene in the closing race Saturday. Holl Image, Superior Stables Arkansas Derby winner and a candidate for the Chicago Derby, to be run at Hawthorne next Saturday, revealed his readiness for that engagement when he ran a mile in 1:41 at that course Saturday morning. He covered the half mile in :47, and three-quarters in 1:13- Amild attack of colic was responsible -v., for Tradables late withdrawal from the second race Saturday, while Darkling, a programed starter in the final, was excused on the report of the veterinary that she had bruised a Blue Ridge Farm sold Eispan to R. Cochran privately at Hawthorne Friday. Eispan is two years old. Mrs. J. J. Watson has acquired the juvenile filly Johns Mae from I. Weil and J. J. Watson will condition her for racing under the Watson colors. The sale was made at Hawthorne. In another transaction at Hawthorne, T. Novak secured the two-year-old Frank C. from G. Keeton. J. D. Larkin is the new trainer. Cheraw, Dark Mist and Nations Taste were the only horses to win three races during the first seventeen days of the Hawthorne meeting. 4
