OVERCAST SKIES AT AGAWAM Fully 15,000 Present Despite Threatening Weather Fortuity-Best in Juvenile Race. AGAWAM, Mass., June 13. The dull overcast skies still held forth in this sector, which, in a manner, served somewhat to lessen the attendance, nevertheless there were fully 15,000 in the Agawam stands and grounds when the horses paraded for the initial race, while many still stormed the gates. The heavy rain, which again fell overnight, kept the racing strip in an off-condition, but constant harrowing steadily improved its. condition as the afternoon prog, jsscd. Fortuity, chestnut daughter of Chance Play, which races in the interests of Burley Parke, proved the best of the six two-year-olds that paraded to the post in the second event over the five furlongs distance. Four-lengths back of the leader came Miss Nico, one that runs for J. T. Brantley and trained by Danny McAuliffe, while Scout Plane, R. Robertsons standard bearer was third, with Off and On fourth for William Elder. Installed an even money choice by the fans, the Parke filly never gave her supporters an uneasy moment, taking the lead at the start and leading for the remainder of the way to pass the judges pagoda some four lengths in the vant of Miss Nico. The real race was for the place, with Miss Nico after trailing the field for most of the way coming along with a big burst of speed through the home stretch. Off and On tired after the early efforts and quit until at the end she was also headed by Scout Plane for third money.
