SUFFOLK DOWNS OPENING Third Meeting in New England Section Begins at East Boston Track Monday. "EAST BOSTON, Mass., June 13. The third meeting of the New England session and the longest of the year in this section will open Monday, when Suffolk Downs, in the East.Boston section, throws wide its gate.for a meeting of fifty-three days. The grounds are thronged with horses and today it looked as though there might be an overflow. Virtually every leading stable that raced at Narragansett and Rockingham has been shipped here, and others are arriving hourly from every point in the country. The first days program will be featured by the Pilgrim Handicap. The event is a three-quarters dash for three-year-olds and upward, and it has drawn eight of the best sprinters which have been seen in New England competition. Favoritism in the event will probably be divided between Eddie Mc-Manns Spixi, who surprised by running second in the Granite State Handicap, at Rockingham, .arid Victor Emanuels speed merchant, Miss Merriment. Suffolk, constructed by Mark Linenthal, the man who built Narragansett, is entirely capable of taking care of larger crowds. Its grandstand is one of the biggest at any American race track,. and there-is plenty of room in the clubhouse and on the lawns. Minimum purses of ,000 will be offered, with several events of higher value programed daily.
