SIXTEEN IN COMMONWEALTH Suffolk Downs Handicap Attracts Big Field Seabiscuit and Glee-man Assigned Top Weights. BOSTON, Mass., June 23. Three-year-olds meet tomorrow in the Commonwealth Handicap at six furlongs, which features the midweek program at Suffolk Downs. A big field has been named for the event, no less than sixteen appearing in the overnight entries. The race is a wide open affair, with Gleeman looming up as the probable choice. However, it is anticipated that at least 3 to 1 will be available against the John Hay Whitney colt. He is top weight of the field under li5 pounds and Knott is slated to be in the pilot house. The Vanderbilt entry of Speed to Spare and Sobriety will also come in for support, and Bill Farnsworth, a horse with a tremendous burst of early speed, will have his backers. Deliberate never has lived up to expectations during his New England campaign. He has been working well however, and may make em step fast to beat him tomorrow. Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords will make her debut here when she sends Indomitable to the post. The stable has high hopes for this gelding and Johnny Longden, leading rider on the grounds, will be in the saddle tomorrow. Seabiscuit will be equal top weight with Gleeman in the feature, but his recent form has not been good and handicappers do not rate him the equal of the Whitney colt. The others are held in lesser esteem, but there is plenty of speed in the race and in a big field racing luck may go a great way toward deciding the winner. It was clear and cool here today and continued fair weather : is predicted. Officials expect the midweek throng to exceed that of Bunker Hill Day.
