NIGHT RAVEN ran away a half mile when the riders were dismounted, while changing riders ori OCCIDENTAL, met the early pace under steady restraint, moved into command when straightened out in the stretch run and finished with speed in reserve. FLOPSIE was rushed into command after the start, showed early speed while saving ground, but could not withstand the winner. DRAWN SWORD came through on the inside entering the stretch and outlasted OCCIDENTAL in the final drive. The latter was brought back to the paddock for a change in riders, which accounted for the delay at the post. He appeared sore going to the post. THE SWAGMAN closed well from a slow beginning. VITOX, on the outside all the way, made up ground slowly. EARLY DAWN showed a good effort. GUNWALE could not menace the leaders. DEDlCAi TION was outrun. BLACKCOCK was outrun the first mile and a half, moved up with a rush at the end and finished with" his saddle on his hind quarters in the final quarter mile. AMAGANSETT set the pace under steady restraint,, made a bad landing at the tenth fence and the boy lost the stirrup iron, then recovered quickly, but tired suddenly in the final sixteenth. SANTI QUARANTI was outrun from the start and could not gain on the leaders at the end. GOLDEN MEADOW, after racing forwardly all the way, fell at the thirteenth fence. THIRD RACE 5-8 MILE. GRINS broke rapidly from the inside, drew away into a long lead, but bore out at the turn and the boy began to case up and in the final eighth roused his mount to hold the opposition safc. MUSCATINE improved his position steadily after being shuffled back, came over to the inside and Finished .with a rush. DRUDGERY responded to urging after rounding the turn and finished well. GOLD CROSS raced in nearest pursuit of the early running, but quit at the end. SUN LAMP, on the outside of the leaders all the way, finished resolutely. FLYAHEAD showed a flash of early speed. MERRY MAKER was under restraint in the early stages on the inside, was steered to the outside after rounding the turn, was bothered slightly at the eighth post by PASS EM BY and drew away at the finish. UNEASY, on the inside all the way and under urging, overcame interference when PASS EM BY swerved and held on well. The latter, on the outside of UNEASY from the start, showed early speed, but swerved when placed under pressure and hung at the finish.
