LADIES DAY AT RIVERSIDE Fair Sex Attend in Large Numbers Maiden Contest Opens Program Colonel Jr. Wins. KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 23. It was Ladies Day again at Riverside Park, and a large turnout of the fair sex helped swell the crowd to unusual proportions and the sport was thoroughly enjoyed by the large and enthusiastic crowd. The weather was ideal for the sport, and, while the sun was hot, the heat was tempered somewhat by a cool breeze that swept through the stands and enclosure. Twelve non-winners in 1936 paraded to the post in the first race, and the winner came from unexpected quarters when Wheatley and Jeffersons Colonel Jr. easily led home the others at the end of the Futurity course. Four lengths back of the winner came D. Clarks Chaumont, which finished two lengths in the clear of P. Delks Billie Dun-lap. Calawee proved to be best of the field of ten that went postward in the second race to contest the purse at the one mile route. A half length back of the winner, and driving hard, came the consistent Dee Dee W., which was in turn three lengths in the clear of the favored Oh Dave, which was making his first start in 1936. The winner took the lead with a rush on the first turn, and once assuming command, was taken under slight restraint. Susie V. was racing in second position, and Oh Dave was galloping along strongly on the outside, and in a contending position. As the field turned into the stretch, Calawee was still showing the way, and Dee Dee W. had displaced Susie V. as the runner-up, with Oh Dave still holding onto third position, maintained throughout to the finish. At the finish the winner pulled up very lame. Oh Dave was the second favorite of the day to meet defeat. i
