FAVORED BY RAGGED START Trey Profits by Advantage Gained Over Rivals and Wins Main Event at Duff erin. TORONTO, Ont., June 23. Favored by getting the best of a ragged start, Trey, racing in the silks of Mrs. J. Badame, was winner of the Holiday Purse, a six and one-half furlongs test under allowance conditions, which served as the principal event on the Kings Birthday program offered by the Metropolitan Racing Association at Dufferin Park today. Opposed by five others after the overnight field was reduced by the withdrawal of Happy Find, the veteran five-year-old son of Sir Barton Resting Time made a show of those that remained as his opponents when he covered the intermediate distance in 1:23, the fastest time for the distance hung up since the meeting opened, and in. a measure his fast beginning aided no end in his easy achievement, which was recorded by three lengths. He had much the best of a start that brought rounds of jeers and boos from the large crowd on hand and for many minutes the gathering voiced their disapproval and demonstrated against the poor beginning, of which Learoyd, Discount and Quickly were the principal sufferers. Plain Ben was the one to chase the Badame gelding to the close of the contest, with Quickly a driving third over Learoyd. With a continuation of summer weather, a crowd above the average turned out for the third program at Dufferin Park and, despite the steady bowling over of choices, several exciting finishes added to a hectic day of entertainment.
