Pat Brady, who arrived with a useful string of horses that were campaigned at Rockingham Park, announced that he would race his charges during the meeting of the Hamilton Jockey Club. Word was sent here that a large crew had been engaged to prepare the Devonshire Park track for the opening day on July 8. Gardeners, painters and decorators are working daily to freshen up the plant, which has been idle since midsummer last year, while another crew is busily engaged working the track daily so that it will be ready for the reception of horses. Applications for stabling accommodations have been coming in steadily since the announcement that a ten-day meeting would be staged, the largest demand coming from Detroit. George Alexandra has made plans to transfer the horses of the J. E. Smallman stable to Hamilton Friday and will have several starters to fulfill engagements on opening day. Jockey Pat Remillard will finish his riding, engagements at DufJerinPajkcii-jday, according to present plans. He has accepted engagements to ride at Hamilton Saturday. Trainer Fred Schelke shipped six horses to Hamilton to await the opening of that meeting next Saturday. Apprentice allowances were waived on Harlem in the second race and Time Limit m the fourth race, and each picked up an additional five pounds in their engagements Tuesday. With the permission of the stewards Lady-much and Heather Rose raced with blinker equipment added, while Sleaford had blinkers removed from his equipment. Eddie Washburn, who will handle the catering at Devonshire Park, arrived from Windsor. He reports that there are many requests for stalls for the Diamond D. meet- ing from horsemen quartered at Detroit Racing secretary Charles F. Henry has again succeeded in arranging one of the popular long-distance races. Wednesdays final will be over one mile and seven furlongs, and the horses will pass the grandstand four times.
