I EPSOM DOWNS TURF NOTES f : Raymond Russell, president of the Alamo Downs Jockey Club of San Antonio, was a visitor -at Epsom Downs Friday afternoon. James E. Farley, who handles the public address system at Epsom Downs, received a communication from E. E. "Doc" Watson, notifying him that all of the stock at the Ohio farm of the veterinarian is shaping up excellently and that the yearlings are a promising-looking lot. Dan Deering, who. is training the division of the Three Ds Stock Farm thoroughbreds at Epsom Downs, will go to the Waggoner brothers farm at Arlington, Texas, on the return of the Fort Worth sportsmen from Kentucky, where he will wean the nine youngsters that will be brought down from Kentucky as well as the seventeen already at the farm. The Hilltop Farm Stables My Tommie, one of the likely choices for the Juvenile Handicap, was withdrawn from the race early in the morning due to the fact that the youngster was not at his best for such a gruelling test, according to trainer Jack Hodgins. Mrs. Floyd West, Dallas sportswoman and owner of Lady Tichner, a recent handicap winner in the two-year-old ranks at Epsom Downs, was a visitor Saturday for the purpose of watching her representative perform in the Juvenile Handicap Saturday afternoon. Jockey Frankie Grill and H. C. "Red" Dodson, agent for the B. Hernandez stable, have completed arrangements for a weekend of fishing at Galveston, returning to Houston Monday morning. John Thorwald, owner of the Skall Stable, came up from Dallas for the week-end sport, returning to his home following the running of Saturdays program. Earl Howry, part owner of the Radio Stable, was an arrival from New Orleans and made arrangements for the arrival of six horses from the Crescent City, including three juveniles and a like number of older horses. The two-year-olds are Flay Pal, Van-chilla and Safe Port, while the older -members of the string are Morning Cry, Thistle Cleo and Roger Witch. H. C. Woolf, trainer for the Motor City Stable, is contemplating shipping his charges to Arlington Downs within the next week for a brief rest prior to campaigning there. Word was received from E. E. Major at Epsom Downs that he is arranging for the shipment of two carloads of thoroughbreds from Riverside Park over the week-end. Due to the fact that the Columbus Day Handicap did not have a sufficient number of different interests to fill the race, the Monday feature was declared off and a handicap for a purse of ,000 for three-year-olds and upward at a mile and a sixteenth scheduled for Wednesday has been added. The new race is to be named the Elks Handicap and will top the mid-week program. Virgil Odeji, acting for Mrs. V. Oden, disposed of the two-year-old filly, Wrack Princess, to E. H. Moody at private sale Saturday morning. E. H.: Moody will look after the training of the racer in the future. Otra Vez, Grey Dream, Barney Allison and Just Imagine joined starter Val Sulichs schooling list which is the largest number placed on the list by the starter in a singlo day of racing during the current meeting. The half dozen yearlings owned by Mrs. A. J. Scheutze- of Houston, which aro being prepared for racing next year, are a promising-looking band and are regarded highly by the Texas patron. If looks count for anything, the owners of the youngsters are confident there are some real runners in the band. Hasty Peter was ineligible for the second- race Saturday, hence the withdrawal of the sprinter from the event, while Moving Clouds and Kendal Green were excused on the recommendation of the track veterinarian in the first and seventh races, respectively. T. J. Carroll has been engaged to look after the two-year-olds Blazing Torch and Kerry Ways, recently purchased by Miss Marjoric Brady, pending the arrival of Ted Horning from Rockingham for the Arlington.
