IMPROVEMENTS AT SARATOGA President Bull Blends Old With the New at Spa Track. New Field Stand of Concrete and Steel Contains One Thousand Seats Planning Preview. NEW YORK, N. T., April 20. "Race patrons will see a new and delightful Saratoga this summer," Marshall Cassidy, steward representing the New York State Racing Commission, stated on his return from a week-end inspection trip to the beautiful upstate course with George H. Bull, president of the Saratoga Association. While at Saratoga, Mr. Bull worked out final details with Tom Clare, track superintendent, which will complete the most pretentious improvement program ever undertaken at Saratoga. Architects, carpenters, steel workers, .roofers, laborers, gardeners and landscapers are working at high speed to have the course ready for the preview being planned by Mr. Bull for newspapermen, who will be his guests on a special train excursion to the Spa Sunday, July 11, two weeks prior to the opening of the thirty-day mid-summer session on July 26. "Mr. Bull not only has accomplished wonders," said steward Cassidy, "but in installing the many fine improvements he has retained the charm that Saratoga has always possessed throughout its glamorous history. He has carefully blended the new with the old in a manner that will continue to delight those who glory in the traditional and historical interests surrounding Saratoga. "A new ring, conveniently located, is near-ing completion. The steel structure adjoining the grandstand, occupies a large area of 85 feet by 360 feet. The upper end portion will house the clubhouse commissioners. The close proximity of one to the other will give clubhouse betters a chance to shop in the main ring, if they so desire, and the marketing for prices will be more spirited as a result, "In arranging the new ring, Mr. Bull has provided a terraced roof overlooking the paddock. The terrace will be fenced off in ornamental iron, containing panels of great horses in Saratoga racing, and grill work depicting famous beauty spots at the Spa. "A new field stand of concrete and steel containing more than 1,000 individual seats, replaces the old wooden structure. Mr. Bull has provided a covered ring directly in back, connected by ramps and stairways, to take care of the new section. The old ring will be converted into office space for the Pinkerton staff, Stevens catering firm and Geddes gate department. The area formerly occupied by the clubhouse ring now will provide additional table and seating facilities."
