1 "DOUBT" CAST UPON MICHELLi ALL ROUND DOPING CHARGES! i , ..4 JAMAICA, N. Y., April 20. Because of the confusion regarding the suspension in Florida of Bert S. Michell, trainer for Mrs. Emil Denemark, in connection with the charge that strychnine was found in a saliva sample taken from All Round, a horse saddled by Michell at Tropical Park on March 23, the New York State Racing Commission made the following statement yesterday: "As is known, the suspension of Michell was ordered by the Florida State Racing Commission on the charge that strychnine was found to have been used on one of his horses. "The New York commission knows nothing more of the matter than that on April 2 and April 5 saliva samples were received at its laboratory from Florida, which, upon analysis, showed positive reactions. They were without marks or memoranda to indicate from what horses they had been taken and were not marked with the name of any trainer. Each sample was analyzed immediately and a report on it forwarded to Florida promptly. "The reports stated that the sample received April 2 showed a strychnine reaction and the one received April 5, a morphine reaction. The laboratory has still not been advised and has no means of knowing from what horses the samples were taken or at what race track or on what day. The laboratory knows, however, that none of its tests of March 23 when Michells horse was tested shows a positive. "Supervisor of tests. Dr. Catlett, states that he was instructed in Florida to send the sample to a private laboratory instead of the official one."
