Operating a large public stable and recently appointed trainer of the entire New England division of the Willis Sharpe Kilmer thoroughbreds, W. A. "Doc" Crawford checked into Narragansett Park Saturday with more than twenty head of fit horses. One shipment came from the Virginia farms of Kilmer, while a second Crawford consignment came from Miami and included nine horses owned by B. N. Kane, wealthy Providence furniture magnate. A second "horse special" from Florida, arriving simultaneously with the Kane string, brought nine thoroughbreds in charge of the popular Jack Whyte, former Kilmer trainer, who is now handling the horses of George M. Hendrie, wealthy owner of the Windsor, Canada, race track. Another former Kilmer trainer, Jack Price, is now training the powerful Waggoner Three Ds Stable in Texas and has reserved stalls at Narragansett Park for the summer meeting.
