EQUIPOISES WORLD RECORD In 1920, Man o War set a new American race record for a mile at l:354i. In 192L Audacious reduced the record to 1:35. In 1923, Cherry Pie cut the mark down to 1:35 Seven years later, in 1930, Jack High ran the mile in 1:35. Then in 1932, along came Equipoise and reduced the record by three-fifths of a second, his mark of 1:34 still standing, not only as an American record but as a worlds record. Equipoise ran the first quarter in :23, the half in :46 and the three-quarters in 1:09. He ran the last quarter in :25. He carried 128 pounds, heaviest impost ever shouldered by any horse that ever set a record for a mile on the American turf.
