1 BAY MEADOWS NOTES o Below Zero was ordered scratched from the sixth race Thursday by the stewards because of soreness. Jockey S. Connell, who was thrown from Rochester Boy when that horses saddle slipped during the running of the sixth race Thursday, was uninjured, but the stewards advised him to accept no more mounts during the afternoon, and E. Tucker was substituted on Townsman in the seventh race. Norlanda came out of her Thursday engagement rather sore and will probably be given a short rest. Frank Brewster, owner of Tistrue, which has won three races at this meeting, was an arival from Seattle and later left for a southern trip, accompanied by Walter Neil-sen, his trainer. Earle DeWarwick, well-known California mutuel employee, is confined to a San Francisco hospital with an attack of pneumonia. A. R. Dixon, well-known track telegrapher, is recovering from an appendicitis operation which was performed Sunday. Allan Gray was the big gun of Thursdays racing at Bay Meadows with three winners. After several weeks of strenuous road, work, jockey Claude Hooper believes he has attained a fitness to ride and so filed his application for a license. Hooper, a veteran reinsman. is a capable rider when in form. For causing a disturbance in the jockey room after the running of the seventh race Thursday, jockey N. Merritt was assessed 5 by the stewards and the rider was warned that a repetition of the offense would bring a lengthy suspension. Billie Bane, owned by T. D. Grimes, was shipped to New York. Norman W. Church has leased to H. W. Ray, of Oregon, the young stallion, Termination, for breeding "at the Oregonians ranch. Due to the scarcity of stabling room at Tanforan, several of the stables now quartered at Bay Meadows will remain here during the meeting at the San Bruno course.
