1 KEENELAND TURF NOTES T $ Col. Matt J. Winn, head of Churchill Downs, Lincoln Fields and Latonia; C.Bruce Head, steward at those three tracks, and Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Hermann motored from Louisville for Thursdays program. Colonel Winn had planned to attend the opening of the Kentucky season but business prevented him from being here. He stated that this years Derby would be the biggest of all and he has witnessed every previous one. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lindenberger were among other visitors from Louisville. Mr. Lindenberger serves as placing judge at Churchill Downs and Latonia. Clarence E. Lehr, president of the Detroit Racing Association, stopped off en route to his home In Detroit from a business trip to Cairo, 111., The Detroit meeting will start Saturday, May 28, and continue through-Saturday, July 9. Earl Sande, trainer of Stagehand, Santa Anita Handicap and Santa Anita Derby winner, and jockey Jack Westrope came over from Louisville to make arrangements for the quartering of Col. Maxwell Howards The Chief, which will be vanned from Churchill Downs to fill his engagement in the Blue Grass Stakes, feature of the Keene-land closing day program. Sande saddled Fencing, which won the 1937 Blue Grass Stakes under Colonel Howards colors.
