LOURDES KEENELAND WINNER Crystal Springs Purse Heads Lexingtons Friday Offerings. Greentree Miss Defeats II. P. Headleys Drift Along to Score Initial Triumph of Career. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 22. Greentree Stables Lourdes proved much the best of the four three-year-old fillies attracted by the featured Crystal Springs Purse at Keeneland this afternoon, to gain the first triumph of her career after numerous attempts. The daughter of Whichone and Shrine, with Porter Roberts in the saddle, ran the mile and a sixteenth in the comparatively slow time of 1:48, even though the track was dull, to defeat Hal Price Headleys Drift Along, the slight favorite, by three and a half lengths. W. E. Smiths Kitty Baker was beaten another five lengths, while finishing two lengths before. A. R. Boms Silver Sarah, which had finished second to Tiger in the Arkansas Derby. Clear, but cooler, weather prevailed and, despite the absence of a worthwhile feature, the crowd was of good proportions. A shower this morning brought about the slight change in the track conditions. HEARTY SCORES Mrs. A. M. Creechs Hearty, which folded up in his last start here at a mile and one furlong, scored a clean-cut victory in the fourth race, at a mile and one-sixteenth, over a half dozen other lowly platers of which Barbara J. was an odds-on favorite. She was unplaced after leading for three-quarters as R. and C. Gentrys Victory Miss was second, a length and a half back of the winner and three lengths before Katherine Maxwells Old Deal. Our Sammy was a close fourth. R. Conley rated Hearty in second place close to Barbara J. until half way around the Continued on twttnty-stxth page. The field was held at the post six minutes due to the stubbornness of Silver Sarah, but a good start was effected from which Drift Along and Silver Sarah displayed the most speed in the opening quarter, while Roberts- had Lourdes under good restraint on the outside. Silver Sarah went to the front in the run down the back stretch, but Roberts permitted his mount to advance slightly on the outside to be lapped with Drift Along as Kitty Baker trailed. As the field came to the stretch, the Greentree miss was called upon and she responded readily , to open up a clear lead soon after being straightened, out. Hal Price Headley supplied another two-year-old winner when his home-bred Hope Diamond conquered eight other plate,r youngsters in the opening dash over the Headley course, scoring by two lengths over Kath-erine Maxwells Busy Man, as Mrs. J. P. Jones Grace Whisk was a similar distance farther back and a neck before Utica. Grace Whisk was a; slight favorite over the winner. RICHARD ON WINNER. Jack Richard rode Hope Diamond and "had her close up from the start, sending the daughter of Apprehension and Precious to the front in the stretch, while Busy Man closed well on the outside to gain her placing over Grace Whisk. Utica flashed good speed but retired as if short in the final furlong. Despite his impost of 124 pounds, . John McShanes Fumble was able to win the second race, Which engaged seven-, ordinary platers at three-quarters, but the gelded son of Blind Play and Embarrass was fortunate in that Say When; the odds-on favorite, was all but left at the post, after which he displayed a winning effort. Ridden by W. F. Ward, Fumble was rated along in fourth place until approaching the stretch turn, from where he moved up steadily on the outside to take command just inside the furlong pole. He then held the Spring Valley Stables Brilliant Rock, a long shot, safe by half a length, as J. C. Millers Golden Ariel was another length back after having taken a slight lead in the stretch. Say When made up an immense amount of ground on the outside to finish at the heels of Golden Ariel. Everglades Stables: Pause, first-starting daughter of Wise Counsellor and Directly, was speediest of the dozen maiden juveniles I meeting over the Headley course in the third race, running the distance in :49, under Ira Hanford to defeat Hal Price Headleys Superstition by a length. Dixianas Star Boarder was another half length back and well before Sis Lottie, the favorite. Hanford had Pause well up from the start, as Sis Lottie darted into a clear lead, but the favorite tired badly in the final furlong, and the Wise Counsellor miss raced to the front and held Superstition and Star Boarder at bay. The winner was given moderate support.
