Mountain Ridge, winner of the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes under the colors of Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Milky Way Farm stable, will make his seasons debut in the Ben Ali Handicap, the second stakes to be offered during the Keeneland spring season and the feature of tomorrows brilliant program. He is one of seven and the only three-year-old named for the one mile and one-sixte,enth journey, which had its inception at the historic Kentucky Association course, which gave way in favor of the picturesque plant that is fast making a country-wide name for itself. After receiving his early Kentucky Derby preparation at Oaklawn Park and Churchill Downs, the son of St. Germans was vanned here from Louisville yesterday and this morning he tested the local course for the first time when he breezed a half mile in :51. CHIEF HOPE. Now because of Tigers doubtful status the chief hope of the Chicago-owned establishment for Derby laurels, Mountain Ridge will pick up 106 pounds, three under the scale and fourteen less than that to be carried by Jerome B. Ingrams Broadway, assigned 108 pounds; Ferguson and Herndons Josh, which will tote 107 pounds, the same package as to be carried by Calumet Farms Galsun and A. B. Hancocks Recussion, the lone filly in the race and the featherweight under 102 pounds. Mountain Ridges final drill over the Kentucky Derby course was a very impressive one and should he triumph tomorrow, he will be recognized as a fitting substitute for j Tiger, which pulled up lame after his last workout. In the Phoenix Handicap Main Man carried 120 pounds and from a slow beginning steadily wore down his field to be a handy winner at the end of six furlongs. PAST PERFORMANCES. Josh showed little in the Phoenix Handicap but since has turned in an excellent trial. Supporting the feature, which from present indications will be run over a fast track and under clear skies is the Elmendorf Purse for three-year-olds. It attracted ten of this age at six furlongs and among the entries are the Kentucky Derby eligibles Ball-O-Fire and Dickerville. The former will be making his seasons debut, but Dickerville, which is the hope of P. A. and R. J. Nash, disappointed badly in his first three-year-old essay several days ago.
