FAIR GROUNDS ARRIVALS J. B. Respess Stable of Fourteen Head Checks in at Detroit Track. Nominations for Inaugural Handicap and Col. Alger Handicap Close at Noon Thursday. DETROIT, Mich., May 25.— Main Man, winner of his three starts this year, all of which were stakes, arrived with fourteen others of the powerful J. B. Respess Stable at the Fair Grounds course of the Detroit Racing Association late yesterday. They had an uneventful journey from River j Downs and present plans call for Main Man I making his local seasons debut in the Inaugural Handicap, which tops the opening day card Saturday. Main Man, also has been named for the Col. Alger Memorial Handicap which is endowed with ,000 in added money, will have its renewal as the feature of the Decoration Day program. Main Man won the Liberty Handicap here last summer as one of his three stakes triumphs. The Au Revoir and Speed Handicap at River Downs being his other victories. Since entering competition this year he triumphed over a fine field in the Phoenix and Ben Ali Handicaps at Lexington and followed up those victories with a triumph in the historic Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs. STABLE LIST. Others in the Respess string which came in charge of trainer Howard Hoffman, are Black Arrow, Gay Waters, Hilfair, Busy Morn, Hail Dress, Highland Ace, April Flower, Magic Moon, Red Sailor, Stairs, Gorgeous Lady and Lady Simms. Hoffman has Nonconnah for Frank Podesta of Memphis, and Sleepy Howard for his own account. Jockey R. L. Vedder, whose riding during the past ten days has been one of the River Downs features, will be here to handle the Respess charges. Dora May, one of the best of the Western-owned sprinters topped the Rockhome Stable of Gus Simone, which reached here from Latonia today. The daughter of Republic, which was accompanied by Busy Lutrecia, Peggy Byrd, Old Foots, Uga, Jane W., and Top Glide, came in charge of trainer William Westerfield. She has been made eligible for the Inaugural Handicap in which she ia expected to make her bow of the year. James D. Stevens, who has been resting his charges at Keeneland since the close of that meeting, came in with nine head and S. Fishburn brought in ten horses from River Downs. BUCKLAND STRING. Another arrival was the stable of Star Buckland, which contained Ladino, Billy Mole, Saparoo, Sharp Thoughts, Wichita City, Eric T., Old Fondo and Renaissance. Although a plater, Ladino is one of the most popular horses to have raced on the local course. Sweep Like, winner of the Hotel Sinton Handicap at River Downs last Saturday and Couleedam, both of which were named for the Inaugural Handicap, headed the T. D. Buhl band, Alex Wilson brought from the Cincinnati track. Likly Lad and Star Boarder, which carry the banner of Dixiana, came from Louisville in charge of Pete Scheffel and Harry Van Rye brought High Fire, Be Discreet and Deerpath, also members of the same stable from Cincinnati. With nominations for the Inaugural and Col. Alger Handicaps, not closing until noon tomorrow, weights for these two fixtures will not be released until late tomorrow or early Friday morning. Judge J. A. Murphy, director of racing, ai lived here late tonight and tomorrow he will give his personal attention to the details pertaining to the opening and the closing of the entries for the two stakes. *
