STARS RETURN TO CRETE Co-Sport and Employer Expected After Louisville Finale. Friend Horse Was Among Kentucky Derby Starters — Illness Disrupted Spring Campaign of Employer. CRETE, 111., May 25.— Two three-year-olds which last year as juveniles raced here with distinction are among the able performers of that age which will be seen under colors during the 24-day meeting opening at Lin-cold Fields on Decoration Day. They are Bert Friends Co-Sport, a starter in the Kentucky Derby, and Mrs. Thelma Otts Employer, whose preparation for the Blue Grass Stake was curtailed because of illness. Co-Sport and Employer now are at Churchill Downs and they will be transferred here at the close of the season at the Louisville track. Co-Sport is coming in a stable trained by R. T. Runnells, which also includes Nations Taste, recently acquired by Friend from the Milky Way Farms, while accompanying Employer here will be a number of other horses which S. Bryant Ott trains for various patrons besides his wife. WON JOLIET STAKES. Last year Co-Sport accounted for the Joliet Stakes and it was here that he began to show promise of becoming a good three-year-old. He raced well this winter in Florida and became so highly regarded by his connections that he was prepared for and started in the Derby. He went unplaced in that classic fixture but Trainer Runnells still has a high opinion of the Friend three-year-old and plans to point him for other stakes for horses of his age. After the rigors of his Derby preparation, Co-Sport received a much deserved rest but fans here can expect to see him back in action before the meeting is long under way. Ott has Employer near racing trim at Churchill Downs, but he may wait until coming to Lincoln Fields to begin the horses Continued on twentieth page. Employer wintered in Louisville and he was progressing nicely in his training this Spring when illness beset him and Ott was forced to throw the horse out of training. Both Co-Sport and Employer are favorites with Lincoln Fields fans and, barring mishaps, should be able to take their place with the best three-year-olds on the scene this Spring.
