HOLTON, away fast but jostled about when dropping back in the first three sixteenths, responded to strong pressure after reaching the stretch and, getting through on the inside, won drawing out. TOMOCA. forced to race wide, was under energetic riding from the start and held on gamely. BUTTONS B. had speed from the start, gave way to QUICK QUICK when enterinz the stretch and tired in the last stages, but outstayed TIMEFUL. The latter lost ground throughout but finished strongly. QUICK QLTCK had speed under hustling tactics and opened up a good advantage in the stretch, but tired in the last eighth. FANFUN was in close quarters much of the race and had to be eased near the end. Scratched — Oddesa Knight, 116. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. WOODSIA. taken in hand after being rushed into command on the inside, was shaken up soon after reaching the stretch and, continuing well, held sway to the end. CARRICKORE was under strong urging from the start, was inclined to bear out in the stretch, but held on fairly well. PERSONABLE, raced wide after the first quarter, showed an even effort. FACULA raced well from a slow beginning. JUBILESTA began sluggishly and could not get up. COURTAWAY failed to keep up. CHICK HI quit. JUSTIFICATION showed nothing. JIMMY W. bled. BRIERTON, under pressure while keeping up early but taken in hand when unable to outrun MALEMAN on the turn, raced to the latter with a rush when straightened in the stretch, where he cam? to the outside, but did not get up until in the closing strides. MALEMAN, in hand for three eighths while racing on the outside, took command easily, continued to race wide while holding on stubbornly in the drive, but was not good enough. CONTRAST, never a great distance back, raced between horses while closing boldly. STEPINANNA moved up menacingly when straightened out in the stretch, but hung near the end. KERMAY was under light urging after about three-eighths,- but could not get up. SANTAN, on the inside early but taken out after reaching the turn, swerved badly while failing to keep up in the stretch, but rallied near the end. SCREEN lost ground. YALE O NINE, fractious at the post but away well, had to be sharply taken up when he threatened to impede horses while swerving in the first eighth, was kept under light restraint while slowly improving his position to the final quarter, where, closing with determination under brisk pressure, he quickly overtook STEEL HEELS and wore down WAFER in the last tifty yards. The latter, rushed into command displayed high speed and held on well, but was not good enough. STEEL HEELS, also fractious at the post, began fast, had good speed, but tired in the last eighth. VISCOUNTY was on the inside after a quarter and showed a good effort. ESPANIA, away poorly, when she squatted at the start, had little chance. TACK POINT had no mishaps. CONDUCT could not keep up. KINGS BLUE began rapidly and, opening up a good lead, was racing in hand when he stumbled before reaching the turn, recovered quickly and, holding MILLIE M. safe while still under a snug hold on the turn, was rushed into a good lead when urged in the stretch, but tired badly, yet lasted. GOLD FLAG, never a great distance back and kept on the inside for a half mile, closed resolutely and, under strong handling after coming out in the stretch, headed MILLIE M. in the last stride. The latter, under light restraint for about three-.eighths, held on with good courage and barely failed to withstand GOLD FLAGS challenge. NOVELETTE, on the outside early, bore over badly through the stretch. NAVARRE had no mishaps. SOLAR HAWK, away slowly, was widely outrun. Overweight — Novelette, 1 pound. The latter took command easily, made a fast pace under good rating and held on well. LITTLE NYMPH saved ground where possible, dropped back steadily after reaching the turn, but came again and finished in resolute fashion. SQUAW LADY was under light pressure after a half mile and tired in the closing stages. SAFE AND SOUND raced wide throughout and could not get up. MAR LE tired after five eighths. BLACK MISCHIEF, not hurried in the early stages and raced a trifle wide to the final quarter, was lucky to obtain room on the inside in the stretch and rushed into command, held on well to win with something left. MAPLE RICCA, receiving a badly judged ride and away very slowly, beean to work his way up when losing much ground on the second turn, was blocked when trying to secure room between horses approaching the final eighth, suffered repeated interference from ERLA nearing the last sixteenth where, after eoing to the inside, he finished well. NIGHT BANDIT took command under urging, bore out entering the stretch, but held on fairly well while continuine to race wide in the drive. CHANTING began to bear out approaching the second turn, came aeain while being carried out by NIGHT BANDIT in the stretch, but tired in the last sixteenth. ERLA, in hand for three quarters, swerved under pressure in the stretch. The others had no mishaps. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. Esseff, April 28, 1934—1:44—4—115. FOR ROMANCE, reserved off the pace, responded when railed upon, drew out fast after cutting across in front of EMIR and MATURE nearing the final eighth and won handilv. MATURE, rated under steady restraint for almost three quarters, had rallied when cut off in the stretch, was slow to recover, but outstayed EMIR. The latter raced wide after the first quarter, took a short lead on the stretch turn was racing gamely when taken up slightly as FOR ROMANCE swerved in front of him and came again when clear. ERUPTION closed fastest. OUR PRINCE quit under pressure. MERRY GO ROUND showed little
