VANDER MEER SIGNS CONTRACT CINCINNATI, Ohio, Oct. 1. It was announced today that Johnny Vander Meer, who pitched two successive no-hit, no-run games his first season with the Cincinnati Reds this year, and two other top-notch players, had signed their 1939 contracts. Paul Derringer, pitcher, and Frank McCormick, freshman first sacker who has hit safely 206 times this year, also signed. Derringer has won twenty-one games this year.
