FINAL NEW YORK MEETING Belgrade Claiming Stakes Headlines Jamaicas Opening Day Card. Best Horses Remaining in Metropolitan Section and Available for Session Feature Valued at ,520. NEW YORK, N. Y.f Oct. 1 The final meeting of the season on Long Island begins Monday at Jamaica, where the sport will hold sway for two weeks before moving on to Empire City for the finale. Five stakes are down for decision, beginning with the Belgrade Claiming Stakes, with ,500 added, which is serving as the inaugural attraction. With fewer stables than ever before leaving New York at the end of Belmont Parks meeting, the calibre of horse3 available for campaigning at the Metropolitan Jockey Clubs course is the best yet and is further exemplified by the quintet of features. Dr. Howard P. Kilroe, president of the Metropolitan Jockey Club, is enthusiastic over the prospects for the meeting, all the essential details necessary for attractive presentation of the sport having been carefully and successfully worked out. TEN ENTERED. A field of ten has been named for the Belgrade and the dash of six furlongs may prove one of the most interesting races of the meeting. Top weight with 120 pounds is the Calumet Farms capable sprinter, Crossbow II., and at this impost he will be giving four pounds to Clocks, seven to Parmelee T.f eight to At Play, and more to the others. With all starting, the race will have a gross value of ,520. The principal supporting events are the Wantagh, a mile and a sixteenth affair for three-year-olds, and the Enfilade, for juvenile fillies at six furlongs. In the. former race are Birthday, Redbreast, Consul, Our Ketcham and Bottle Top, while the Enfilade field is headed by Smart Crack and Unerring, two of the best members of the division. Most prominent and valuable of the Jamaica offerings is the Continental Handicap, which will have its twenty-first running Saturday. The Metropolitan Jockey Club is adding 0,000 to this mile and one-sixteenth event and at such a value it is expected to attract a strong field with the winner being entitled to having his name inscribed alongside that of Seabiscuit, Count Arthur, King Saxon, Halcyon, Aga Khan, Little Chief, Black Maria, Chance lay and the other good horses with victWy in the event to their credit. OUTSTANDING CONTENDERS. Among the outstanding candidates for the Continental are Fighting Fox, Count Morse, Idle Miss, Thanksgiving, Roguish Girl, Great Union, Magic Hour, Cant Wait, Rust, Marica and Esposa and the starting field is expected to include most of these horses. On the second Wednesday, October 12, which is Columbus Day, the principal offering will be the Interborough Handicap, a dash of six furlongs with ,000 added, whose field may include such outstanding sprinters as Preeminent, The Fighter, North Riding, Crossbow H., Clocks, Bold Turk and Merry Lassie. The ,000 Remsen Handicap and ,000 Long Island Claiming Stakes are on the program for the final Saturday, October 15, and many of the better juveniles are included in the sixty-eight eligibles to the former event, a dash of six furlongs. Among them are Beau James, Invader, Hants, Gala Hour, Book Plate, Maeline, Roman Hero, No Competition, On Location, Smart Crack, Selma Lad, Entracte, Heather Time, Unerring and Technician. In the Long Island, an affair of a mile and one-sixteenth, are Knights Haven, Crossbow n., Encore, Pageboy, Old Nassau, Go Home, Fair Stein, At Play, Pastry and Rust. The bottom claiming price is ,000.
