MUGGINS moved up on the inside in the run through the hack stretch; met determined opposition from FUNDERBURG, disposed of him. and. drew out steadily in the last eighth. FUNDERBURG responded gamely vvhen called upon-,, made a determined bid to reach the winner, but was not good enough, althoudi closing willingly. A claim of foul was lodged against the winner, but was not allowed. GOLDEN FATE on the outside in the. run through; the back stretch, made a. determined, effort on the stretch turn, moved up briefly, but was unable to make up any ground in the-closing drive! MAY MUSIC-,-, slow to begin, and badly outrun-for the first three-eighths, closed a big gap thereafter. BROAD KILL had speed for the first halt mile, faltering thereafter. LEARNED displayed speed from the. start, met determined opposition from SQUAWKER, disposed of her and, hard ridden through the last eighth, had enough in reserve to hold MAEBOB safe. The Tatter, steadied along back of the- pace, responded gamely to punishment and was slowly wearing down the winner during the last eighth. SQUAWKER had good" speed while disputing" the pace and held on gamer than usual in the drive. MAEVIX was well placed and, saving ground throughout, was unable- to keep up .through the last, three-sixteenths mile. OFFENDER was unable to engage-the leaders. ROYAL-BIRD moved up on the- outside leaving the back stretch, although tiring during the last five-sixteenths. ELDEE, unruly at the; postr was outrun all the way Ovcnveight Eldcc, 1 pound. LUCKY JEAN displayed speed from the start, withstood repeated bids from WILLOW BUD and VOTE BOY and, although tiring ncaring the stretch, was bearing out in the last sixteenth but had enough left to hold MIXWELL safe.. The latter was unable to keep pace early, came through on the inside of the pacemaker nearing the stretch and was slowly overtaking the winner at the end. VOTE BOY raced forwardly placed for the first half mile, tiring slightly in the stretch drive. WILLOW BUD had good speed and only tired in the stretch. JESSIE V. L. lacked her usual early speed and was outrun from the beginning. ODD BLUE got the better of his rider on the way to the post and ran away for almost seven-eighths. PUMPGUN was slow to settle into his best stride and did not start to improve his position until the last three-eighths, raced into contention with a rush and, taking command in the stretch, drew out steadily. SILVER TRACE avoided the early pace and came stoutly in the stretch. PURPLE WRACK was unable to keep up early, but was going stoutly during the closing stages. GRAND LIGHT was much used in racing with DEVILS MATE, then faltered through the closing eighth. DEVILS MATE had good speed for the first half mile, tiring thereafter.. NATTY BOY took command in the run to the first turn, drew clear and, rated along In. Frontr held on willingly, although no match for "the winner in the closing test. DOLLY VAL, In near pursuit of the pact throughout, held on with good energy to the close. EASTPORT was unable to keep pace, early, then came with good energy in. the closing test. PANTHER CREEK, taken under steadying restraint after gaining- a forward position, was unable, to reach the leaders when called upon. PLAY DIS was far back the entire trip. BUSTER BOY, well placed while racing slightly restrained, camfr ith good energy in the stretch. NEMONT was- back of the pace, was moved up gamely when interfered with by BUSTER BOY and a claim of foul against the latter was allowed. SOMALI raced forwardly placed for the first three-quarters. BUGLE CALL outran his field from, the start, opened up a long lead and, responding gamely to hsrd urging through the stretch, had enough left to hold safe the closing challenge of LAST ROMANCE. The latter, as usual, slow to settle into her stride, moved up on the inside nearing the far turn, came to the outside when reaching the stretch and finished wearing down the winner gradually. MORALIST, in closest chase of the pace for most of the trip, held on welt under punishment in the stretch run. LITTLE BANNER closed a good gap after being outpaced early. GRAND JESTER, aivoiding the early pace, began giving improved speed in the last three-eighths and, moving to the pacemaker when reaching the stretch, gained a slight lead over JIM JOHN at the eighth post and increased his advantage slowly under brisk pressure. JIM JOHN, in closest pursuit of the early pace, supplanted ASSIST froni the lead and, despite holding on gamely, was not quite good enough and barely held on long enough to hold BRED IN BLUE safe. The latter, outpaced f-arly, came through on the inside on the stretch turn and closed with good energy in the closing drive, PLAYDEMA was unruly at the post and was unable to reach the leaders. ASSIST had speed for the first five-eighths. PLUCKY BABY lacked speed and turned in a dull effort. Scratched 66796 Bright Melody. 107.
