GUY L0MBARD0 AND HIS ROYAL CANADIANS Guy Lombardo, who with his famous Royal Canadian band, began a Chicago engagement last Thursday night, was born in London, Ont. His father, a talented musician, wanted his children to have a musical education. Guy began his study of the violin at an early age, so early that when he was 12 he directed his own juvenile orchestra in a concert before the local Mothers Club. It was a proud day for the Lom-bardos. j In 1923 the Royal Canadians crossed the border into the United States, the possessors ! then, as they are now, of a "sweet style" all their own, a style that was later to be j dubbed by a Chicago critic as the "sweetest music this side of heaven." It wasnt long before- the country at large was familiar with this style, and Chicago played an important part in familiarizing the nation, with it. Radio was just coming into its own and there was a big demand for Guy and hia Royal Canadians, which has continued to the present time.
