SENATOR McADOO RESIGNS LOS ANGELES, Calif., Nov. 10. U. S. Senator William Gibbs McAdoo, who lost the democratic nomination to Senator-elect Sher- idan Downey despite President Roosevelts? personal support in the primary, resigned today. In a letter to Governor Frank F. Merriam, McAdoo said he wanted to accept appointment immediately as head of the Federal Government Interests in the Dollar Steamship Line. Governor Merriam, Republican, defeated yesterday by Culbert Olson, Downeys runningmate, said he would appoint a successor within a few days to serve until the expiration of McAdoos term next January 3.
