SHREVEPORT TURF NOTES i b Former jockey Dave Hum, who has two horses quartered at the local course, has taken over Tartarus to train for J. H. Taylor, for the remainder of the State Jockey Club meeting. The eight-year-old bay mare, Dixie Binder, by Bookbinder Dixie Mina succumbed to an attack of pneumonia according to word received at the offices of the racing secretary here this morning. T. R. Marullo, who has a trio of horses in training at the Fair Grounds course, departed for New Orleans on business and plans to return over the week-end. The horses Very Much and Imperial Nick have been taken over by J. Meyer to train. The horses were formerly in the care of H. R. Labadie. William H. Titler, trainer of the horses owned by W. E. Nutter, registered the platers Instead and Midlanda. A new addition to the riding colony at the local course is jockey Frank Slamey, who was an arrival from the West. Jockey E. Mercer is another who put in his appearance and had his initial mount of the meeting this afternoon.
