WINTERS STRING FORMIDABLE Credited With Two Out of Five Fair Grounds Stakes. Stable Not Large Numerically But Capable Despite Small Numbers Trained by Lamoreaux. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 19 The most dominating factor in the handicap ranks at the Fair Grounds as the fourth week of the winter meeting gets under way is the stable of Mrs. C. C. Winters of Detroit. The small but useful outfit trained by Adelard Lamoreaux has been successful in two of the five stakes decided thus far, thus giving the outfit an advantage over the others who have had representation in the featured numbers at the Crescent City course. Mrs. C. C. Winters got the jump on her rivals when Catomar came through with a surprising as well as impressive victory in the Thanksgiving Handicap on opening day, but failed dismally in the running of the Jefferson Park Handicap a week ago. However, the honor of the stable was upheld by the classy juvenile Patrol Scout, which annexed the Biloxi Handicap and then came back to finish in a dead heat with Bright in an allowance race. . The two victories of Patrol Scout boosted the stock of the youngster considerably and predictions are being made that this son of The Scout Margie C. will prove himself a performer of quality. Patrol Scout was a trifle late in coming to his best form and was credited with only one score prior to being shipped to New Orleans for the winter. Of the other major races decided to date, Mrs. J. A. Nix gathered in the Dixie Handicap when her consistent Woodsaw romped i to victory and then was shipped to Santa Anita by trainer Lank Avant. Warlaine took 1 the decision in the colors of Weston W. Adams, Massachusetts sportsman, in the Jefferson Park Handicap after several previous failures, while the Pass Christian went to Lostagal.
