McCOY NINETEEN YEAR "VET" Popularized Use of Goggles by Jockeys Has Never Been in Serious Riding Accident. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 19 Nineteen years of continuous work in the saddle, with only two weeks absence because of submitting to an operation, is the record of which Jimmy "Goggles" McCoy boasts. While most jockeys have been in numerous crack-ups, McCoy has been quite fortunate never to have suffered any broken bones, although he has figured in some spills. Racing has been kind to the 37-year-old veteran, who hails from Lexington, Ky., in more ways than one. He has accounted for his share of stakes during his lengthy career and isnt considering retiring from the saddle for some time to come. It was McCoy who made "goggles" popular with jockeys and there are few who do not include this item as a part of their riding equipment these days. In addition to popularizing the use of "goggles," McCoy is credited with having sponsored the use of other gadgets perfected by himself, such as collapsible blinkers and a run-out bit, among others. j
