! SANTA ANITA TURF NOTES j : Former jockey Hurst Philpot, who developed the fast filly First Miss has sold an interest in the daughter of Osculator and Nellie Worthington to Jack Kenaston, prominent sportsman of Santa Monica. Terms of the transaction were private. Kenaston is also the -owner of Edith, which is under the direction of Philpot. One of the prettiest barns on the grounds at Santa Anita is that of C. M. Willock, in charge of trainer William Osborne. It is the only stable decorated with orange trees. At this time they are bearing some large-sized fruit. The sleeping quarters for the help is also another tribute to the genius of Osborne, who has expended a" good sum of money in beautifying it and making it more convenient for the help. Trainer M. "Buster" Millerick, who is handling the western division of the Charles S. Howard horses, arrived with six head, the vanguard of the extensive stable. The six which Millerick unloaded were Advocator, Dressage, Lady Jaqueline, Indiantown, Graven Maid and Rushing By. Millerick returned to Tanforan Wednesday to arrange the transfer of the twelve racers under his care and the consignment will probably arrive at Santa Anita Friday. Jockey " Villis F. Ward, has joined the stable of Gaffers and Sattler and will do the riding for that establishment while here. William "Chappie" Sims was among the arrivals recently, bringing four head, com prised of Jolito, Triplane and Zadra, which carry the silks of Allan Drumheller, Washington sportsman, and Fort Ryola, which races for Mrs. W. Sims. Jockey Allan Gray is back with his former employer, Earl H. Beezley. Gray achieved a good measure of success while with Beezley before they parted last spring. Harold Adams will serve as agent for the Beezley stable and also for jockey Gray. The Beezley charges number seventeen at this time. He conditions for various owners,: which include Kozinsky Bros., Joseph Cohen, Mrs: E. H. Beezley and F. E. Childs. Writer Fenwick, trainer ot the Joe , E. Brown horses, has the .stock of the screen star in fine fettle. He reports that; the out-lander, Cascabelito is rounding to racing condition after a lapse of inactivity of several months. It was only recently that Brown acquired the horse Barnsley which raced so successfully under the direction of Fenwick. William J. Potter is among the horsemen who elects to ship by van. The Mobile horseman brought in four head from Tanforan, which consisted of Mrs. Q. A; Cas-sons Pansys Third, Redcar arid Ovlop, while Polvos Prince is the only-horse which will represent Mrs. W. J Potter. Last season the high mark of 2,788 licenses for the Santa Anita meeting yere issued. Prospects are that as many or more will be the order this season. To. give an idea of the number in each group, the following figures for last season are given;
