, , I I WIDENER WEIGHTS JAN. 4 Possibility of Seabiscuit and War Admiral Meeting Again. Next Renewal of Race Will Be Fourth To Be Decided at Hialeah Park March 6. MIAMI, Fla., Dec. 24. With the possibility of another meeting between Samuel D. Riddles War Admiral and C. S. Howards Seabiscuit pending, turf followers are as eager as the owners themselves to get a glimpse of the weights which racing secretary and handi-capper Charles J. McLennan will assign to seventy-eight thoroughbreds nominated for the 0,000 added Widener Challenge Cup on Saturday, March 6, at Hialeah Park. Not since the Pimlico Special, when Sea-biscuit i outfooted War Admiral, has there been a racing topic as much discussed as the i weights these two horses and other topnotch-ers will carry in the mile and one-quarter stake, which comes as close to being a national championship event as any race ever will. According to the conditions of the race, named to honor Joseph E. Widener, president of Hialeah and Belmont Parks, and vice-chairman of The Jockey Club, weights will be announced by racing secretary Mc-j Lennan Wednesday, January 4. These are scheduled for release at 6 p. m. that day, under the regulations prescribed. COST 50 TO START. The Widener is a handicap for three-year-. olds and upward. The entry fee was 0 for each horse nominated. To remain eligible I each owner must post an additional subscription fee of 00 on or before Monday, January 16, and 00 to start. The Miami Jockey Club adds 0,000. All entrance, declaration and starting fees will go to the winning owner, along with the magnificent Joseph E. Furst scored with Mantagna in 1936, W. J. Hirsch with Columbiana in 1937 and Samuel D. Riddle with War Admiral in 1938. As War Admiral again is entered, the Riddle chances of gaining permanent ownership of the cup are exceedingly bright. ALREADY ON GROUNDS. Highly regarded Widener candidates already on the grounds include Herbert Woolf s Lawrin, winner of the last Flamingo Stakes and Kentucky Derby; Mrs. W. Plunket Stewarts Pasteurized, hero of the famed Belmont Stakes; Warren Wrights Bull Lea, which defeated Stagehand at Narragansett Park, and Townsend B. Martins Cravat, winner of the Jerome Handicap at Belmont Park. War Admiral and Stagehand are expected to entrain for Hialeah Park shortly. Stagehand is quartered at Columbians. C, along with Seabiscuit. War Admiral will come on from the Riddle farm in Berlin, Md. Maxwell Howard, owner of Stagehand, arrived this week and will remain for the season. His trainer, Earl Sande, made a hasty trip to Florida and then returned to Columbia.
