TSANTA ANITA TURF NOTES $ - and Cecil Wilhelm, who is conducting one of the largest, .public stables here, arrived recently .with, ten-horses, whicli made the trip by yanv At this.time Wilhelm is training for four different patrons. He has seven head for Mrs. T. Loeff, of which Gallaclay is the best known; for R. G. Butard,- Mpnsweep. The horse King Royale is the property of Mrs. J. M. Duffield, while the two-year-old Nanak races for R. Yatsu of Los Angeles. Trainer Johnny Kermath has transferred the horses of the Dormerv Stable of Mervin Leroy and those of the W. L. Ranch to Santa Anita. The horses have been resting since the Hollywood meeting, but are well advanced in their condition. For Leroy has Mad Sue and Lady Watch; the W. L. Ranch horses consist of Costep, Baltimore Boy, Marching, Betty War, Bonicon and Jockide. The California Horse Racing Board has opened offices at Santa Anita Park and started the work of registrations in preparation for the opening of the racing season on Saturday of next week. Everyone participating in the meeting must have, a license and be under the jurisdiction of the state body. Four hundred and three owners, 292 exercise boys, 709 grooms, 238 trainers, 100. authorized agents, 147 miscellaneous; 82 jockeys, 27 apprentice riders, 766 pari-mutuel clerks and 24 officials. Returns are starting to come, iii for the Santa Anita Handicap press pool. Sports editors and turf writers all over the country have been asked to pick the likely one-two-three as they line up at this early date. Opinion seems to center on Stagehand and Sea-biscuit, which finished noses apart in the last running. The increased weight given the pair evidently is not figured to stop them. Ligaroti and Specify are getting some calls for first place and the crack two-year-olds, Porters Mite and Xalapa Clown, are in high favor with others. Nationally known sports writers are commencing to arrive to cover the Santa Anita opening and take in the sports celebration after the first of the year. Grantland Rice, t Henry McLemore, William Tell, .Oscar, Otis .and others are getting on the job.. There .will be additional arrivals after the Christmas holidays. . , Earl Beezley. has,ane,w contract rider this winter. The boy is still an apprentice. His name is Burt Reynolds. William E.- Boeing, Seattle airplane man who races a large stable andwill be well represented here this winter with such as Porters Mite, Grim Reaper, Piccolo and other good ones, was a visitor at Santa Anita.
