HOPKINS TAKES OATH OF OFFICE WASHINGTON, D. C, Dec. 24. Secretary of Commerce Harry Hopkins took his oath of office today on a black Morocco bound Bible presented- to him by Mrs. Roosevelt. After the ceremonies, first the President anc then Associate Supreme Court Justice Stanley Reed, who administered the oath and sixty guests at the ceremonies signed the Bible. Hopkins appointment presages in the belief of industrial circles a new era of harmony and co-operation between government and big business. The man who has directed the New Deals big WPA relief machine since its inception and who, in that capacity, "sat in" on cabinet meetings, now takes an official place at the cabinet table. The President, Hopkins intimate friend socially as well as in the business of government, sat by smiling as Justice Reed administered the oath of office.
