! " i 1 GREENOCK YOUNGSTERS GOOD .. , . : . ". . Likelyto Make Their Sure Famous . ; ! Promising Crop, Names Approved Sor . Six of B. B. Geoigei Ybiingfsters Now Stabled at the Fair Grounds. NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 24. The name of Greenock, a speedster of several years ago, is likely to be brought back to prominence in turfdom, not as a racer, but as a progenitor of horses of quality. Nine youngsters sired at Richard B. George3 Glad Acres Farm in Dallas, Texas, and if appearances count for anything, the crop is among the finest looking assembled at the Fair Grounds to be prepared for racing in 1939. Greenock has produced a number of racers to date, but none have achieved the greatness of their sire in racing. However, Johnny Zoejler, former jockey and an astute horseman, is very much impressed with the prospects of the "babies" he has under his supervision at present. These were broken last summer at the George farm by their trainer and have been progressing impressively since their transfer to New Orleans early in the fall of this year. Names have been approved for. six of the nine yearlings that make up tlxe greater portion of the Glad Acres farm holding at present and all except one of those with "tags" break the name of their sire, Green- ock. Those with monikers, according to Zoel-1 ler, are: Sir Greenock, br. c, by .Greenock Bubbling Sixty. Joegreenock, br. c, by Greenock Mary Gardner. Beau Greenock, ch..c, by Greenock Jolly Rambler. Wise Greenock, ch. c, by Greenock Captains Daughter. ; . Sara Greenock, b. f, by Greenock Nassa lone. Gay Sallie, b. f, by Greenock Dixie L. Three others, like the foregoing off-springs of Greenock and bred in the Lone Star State are awaiting the approval of the - registrar of The Jockey Club of the names submitted by owner and breeder George, who maintains one of the most elaborate thoroughbred nurseries in the Lone Star State. Glad Acres Farm was only sparsely represented during 1938, but prospects are brighter for next year as the result of a fine looking crop of juveniles. Other stables granted names for youngsters within the past few days by The Jockey Clubs registrar, includes two of the three yearlings owned by Mrs. Edward Haughton, another patron of Dallas, Texas, Band o Silver, a bay colt by Silverdale Bettina H., and Silver Knot, a chestnut colt by Silver-dale Banderillo. The third member of the outfit is an unnamed bay filly by Pharamond Supreme Sweet. Mrs. . E. B. Shipp, whose stable seldom houses yearlings, has one this season that is being prepared by Ed Shipp and the name of John . Oldham has been granted for the chestnut colt by Montferrat. Practically all of the other owners of yearlings jwhot intend to campaign their newcomers, early next year at the Fair Grounds have subiitted what they belieye. to be suitable names and are now awaiting the approval of the registrar, whose scrutiny of I the names applied for requires considerable I time and research.
