I TROPICAL PARK TURF NOTES f Jim Arthur, who shipped the horses of Dr. Strother from Charles Town, W., Va., to Oriental Park for the meeting of the Havana American Racing Association, stopped off en route to Cuba for a few days of the sport and left Miami Friday night. Arthur was visiting his cousin, J. P. Mayberry. Jockey K. McCombs was granted his riding license by the Florida State Racing Commission and is expected to make his riding debut on Mucho Gusto in the Christmas Handicap Monday. David T. Wilentz, famed lawyer, is enjoying the sport at Tropical Park. Wilentz has been an annual visitor for racing at both the Gables Racing Association and Hialeah Park. George Cook, who races a small string of horses on tracks in Maryland and New England, is taking in the sport here while waiting for the meeting at Oriental Park to open. Jockey J. E. Wilson, who rode in California, arrived to join the local riding colony. i Jockey E, Arcaro, contract rider for the Greentree Stable, heads the list of riders. with nine winners scored in the first five! days of the meeting at Tropical Park. The services of Arcaro are in demand in, most every race. Charles H. Hughes, veteran timer at Havre de Grace, Delaware Park and other leading tracks in the East, is a daily visitor. Mr. Hughes is on the official family of" the Miami Jockey Club. Fred Burton, who will serve as racing secretary at Gulfstream Park, came over from . Hollywood, Fla., to witness the program at Tropical Park Saturday. Burton stated that the plant is rapidly rounding into shape and stated that the racing strip proper is in excellent condition. Mathis C. Shea, who served as racing secretary at Agawam Park for the past two years, has been appointed placing judge at Gulfstream Park.
