FAR FROM A MERRY XMAS MADRID, Spain, Dec. 24. Spains capital, beleaguered Tor two years, today faced a grim and barren Christmas. The civil population lacks virtually every essential for feasting. Not even horse flesh is obtainable. There are no fats, liquors, tobacco or meat. Homes lack heat Each person is on a daily ration of two ounces of bread. The tobacco loving Madrilenos have to content themselves with smoking herbs and even chopped potato peelings when they are obtainable.
