BRITISH PROMISE AID TO EGYPT CAIRO, Egypt, April 24. Great Britain has promised Egypt military aid in event of aggression, Mohammed Pasha Mahmud, Egyptian prime minister, told the Chamber of Deputies today. Formerly a Turkish tributary state, Egypt was declared a British protectorate in 1914 and an independent sovereign state in March, 1922, subject to certain reservations protecting the state against foreign aggression and safeguarding the Suez. Canal route to the East. In extending armed aid to Egypt, Britain would merely be protecting her own interests and fulfilling the obligations assumed when Egypt was made a sovereign power.
