LEXINGTON DERBY WORKOUTS Candidates for Louisville Prize Spend Busy Sunday Morning. Calexico, Flying Lill, Hash, Roll and Toss and Third Degree Given Good Trials. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 24. Sunday was a busy day for Kentucky Derby and Blue Grass Stakes eligibles quartered at Keene-land Park. Six candidates for the Blue Grass Stakes to be renewed here on Thursday, the closing day of the meeting, and Yale o Nine, a Kentucky Derby eligible, had useful trials. The six are also Kentucky Derby eligibles. Calexico, a winner here and the hope of Charles H. Cleary, Chicago patron, turned in the best work, running nine furlongs, j the distance of the Blue Grass Stakes, in 1:55. With Flying Lill as a companion, the son of Chicle reeled off the first mile in 1:42 and his early fractions were :24, :49 and 1:16. Flying Lill was timed the mile in 1:42. Equipped with blinkers, Calexico commenced his task from the sixteenth post of the one and one-sixteenth miles track. Hash, Third Degree and Roll and Toss, three of the Greentree Stable candidates, also had their final long preparations, Roll and Toss being limited to a mile, which he ran in 1:48. Going along in easy fashion he was timed the quarter in :28, half mile in :56 and six furlongs in 1:23. Third Degree and Hash worked alone and they, too, started their jaunt from the sixteenth post. Third Degree reeled off thf nine furlongs in 1:56 and Hash in 1:58. Valdina Farms Viscounty, second to Roll and Toss and Hash in his two races here, breezed nine furlongs in 1:57. Attended oy Ji,agie .Pass throughout and handled by Nunzio Pariso, Viscounty ran the quarter in :25, half mile in :51, six furlongs in 1:19 and mile in 1:44. His final furlong in :13 was the fastest of any of the candidates. With Bobby Dotter up and well in hand throughout, Yale o Nine breezed nine furlongs in 2:001. He was timed the quarter in :25, half mile in :52, six furlongs in 1:20 and mile in 1:47. Total Eclipse was limited to a five furlongs spin which he accomplished in 1:01. S. S. Brown, acting racing secretary, is awaiting word from Earl Sande regarding the status of J. H. Whitneys Heather Broom and Counterpoise. One of the pair was slated to come from New York for the stakes.
