CARGADOR responded gamely to urging in the stretch and was going well at the end, but did not threaten the winner. ONE SHEN made up much cround on the outside in the stretch. ONUGO was going fairly well at the finish. ED was badly outrun in a weak effort. COLONEL BRET and SMOKY SNYDER tired in the stretch. GREY NURSE stumbled in the first quarter and unseated her rider. AU MAN, saved close to the pace in the early running, wore down EN MASSE on the outside in the stretch to get to the front near the end and won in a hard drive. EN MASSE was well rated while making the pace and was hard ridden when challenged, but was not good enough for the winner. GIPSY MINSTREL raced evenly and went well to the end, but just lasted to hold REAL CLEAR. The latter was pocketed next to the rail all down the back stretch and, getting to the outside when too late, came fast in the middle of the track in the last eighth. Start good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. STANDS ALONE was outrun early, but came very fast in the middle of the track after leaving the back stretch and, closing with a rush, got to the front on the extreme outside in the closing strides. GALAPAS had speed from the start, drew away from the field in the back stretch and, gamely withstanding a challenge from BEST BEAU in the stretch, raced well to the finish and barely missed. BEST BEAU was rushed through an opening next to the rail nearing the far turn to reach a contending position and, although in rather tight quarters, held his position and raced gamely to the end. COUNT ATLAS lacked his usual early speed, but closed some ground. SWEEPALOT, MASKER and FALERNO, all prominent for over half the distance, tired in the run home. CONGRESSMAN had much taken out of him racing on the outside of several horses in the first three-quarters and tired. ADVOCATOR bled and was pulled up. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-8 MILES. TRIPLANE, slow to get going, came to the outside rounding the far turn and finished strongly. WISE WILL raced evenly. SHASTA RACKET made a game bid on the far turn, but was tiring at the end.
