I., N. Y., May 18 Minee-Mo, who recently escaped from the plater ranks, dusted off some stakes performers of note in the De Mund Handicap, a class "C" test over the seven-furlong route that was dignified with feature billing on todays program at "beautiful Belmont." John Partridges steady Pompey gelding responded to a clever ride at the hands of Wayne Wright to swing past the final marker in this affair, with three lengths to spare over Mrs. Alice F. Shermans Grey Wolf, who was the runner-up. The Wheatley Stables Naval Reserve, an own brother of the worlds money winning champion, Seabiscuit, who has never taken the relationship "very seriously, finished in third place. He was two and a half lengths behindGrey Wolf. The Finest and Porters Cap, who have distinguished themselves in stakes fixtures, dead-heated for. fourth money, while the highly fancied Roman Flag flashed keen early speed as usual, but gave way at the turn. He races in bandages these days and apparently has gone back considerably. Minee-Mo was winning his fourth purse in his latest half dozen essays. Never before, however, had he bested a field of the De Munds quality and he returned the Partridge rooting section .70 for , moving over the seven furlongs in 1:23. Fourth Win in Six Starts A large gathering saw the De Mund and its surrounding events. The turnstiles disclosed that 15,381 were present for the days bill, as against a gathering of 14,789 the corresponding afternoon last spring. Minee-Mo was on the pace all the way in the feature. He was lapped" on Two Ton Tony and Roman Flag in the first sixteenth and fell heir to the lead going into the bend, as those two gave way. With Wright stepping him right along, Minee-Mo opened up an ever-increasing patch of daylight through the stretch and, after assuring brackets, was not persevered with in the final yards, winning "on the bit." Grey Wolf was never far back and finished stoutly but couldnt menace the winner, while holding Naval Reserve safe. The latter had early speed but was losing a little ground in the front patch. Selma-lad was in trouble in the first half mile and Porters Cap finished fairly well when too late. Mrs. H. C. Phipps strapping bay filly, Navigating, won her second purse in as many starts and hung out the fastest five furlong figures of the meeting, when she Continued from Page Thirty-Five Minee-Mo. Navigating was ridden by the veteran, Tommy Malley, broke from the extreme outside and was always in front, by narrow margins, as she made a long diagonal to the inner rail. Driven Snow joined her a furlong out and, Now Mandy also took a run at the Wheatley miss, but Navigating stuck to her guns to win by half a j length. Now Mandy tired and finished third. Navigating paid and ran coupled with Optimism, who was prominent early, but tired. A particularly nasty-looking spill developed at the four an da half furlongs pole near the end of the long back stretch, in the six-furlong third race. Four horses raced for the turn in a tight knot, with Happy Lark on the rail, How Come next to him, Lawyers Light next to How Come and Aboyne on the outside. They were inches apart when Neves, on Lawyers Light, tried to ease back out of the jam. His horse tripped over the heels of one of the other three and went down heavily. Capt. Caution, racing directly behind him, spilled over Lawyers Light. Lawyers Light appeared to have sustained a broken foreleg. Neves sustained lacerations about the back, head and neck. McCreary, who was aboard Capt. Caution, landed on one hip and seemingly was only shaken up. I
