VINGT ET UN was prominent from the outset, went to the front nearing the far turn, opened up a good lead, met stubborn resistance from UNA H. after straightening out in the stretch and drew ciear in the closing eighth. COL. GOODNIGHT, steadied along early, came to the outside for the stretch run and was along in the closing stride to wear down UNA H. The latter made a determined bid to overtake the leader in the stretch, but tired slightly through the last seventy yards. GENERAL PLANET, on the outside throughout, went evenly all the way. WIRE ME closed some ground. CLARO was ufrable fo threaten. NO CLOUD quit badly. AFTER DINNER trailed. LATEPASS moved up fast on the outside nearing the close of the initial quarter, fought it out with BROWN DANCER for the entire closing three-sixteenths and outlasted the latter. BROWN DANCER, prominent throughout, gained a short lead before reaching the stretch and, while holding on tenaciously, was not quit good enough. DARK LEVEL far back early, came with a rush through the stretch. NIGHT TIDE, under slight reserve early, continued willingly when placed to pressure, but was unable to reach the leaders. OVER GOLD made up some ground - after racing well back early. SUN IDELE displayed speed to get to the front, but faltered in the last five-sixteenths. SAVING GRACE tired. SOUTHERN JANE was outrun. SCARCITY, at home in the going, raced to the front in the first sixteenth, drew clear and, rated along in front, was never seriously threatened. VALDINA FLARE, .unable to reach the leaders early, moved up stoutly after going three-eighths, came through on the inside entering the stretch and held on with good energy to the close. LOVE NOTE, slow to settle into her best stride, noved up stoutly during the first quarter and held on gamely to the end. TRIPOD, quickest to start, went prominently placed for the first half, then tired under pressure. WHAT EXCUSE closed a good gap after being outpaced early. BRIGHT FINISH was unable to reach the leaders. WAR ORPHAN faltered after showing early speed. LOU ONEILL was never a serious threat. CHERRY RASCAL was outrun all the way. VERY GRACEFUL, steadied along in close attendance of the pace for the first half, moved up stoutly nearing the stretch, came extremely wide when straightening out for the run to the finish, readily wore down OPPORTUNITY and drew out in the last eighth. The latter had speed from the start, drew clear, and, rated along under slight restraint, held on well though unable to go along when challenged by the winner. VAIN BEAUTY moved up after going a quarter and held on with good enprgy in the closing drive. MELLOW closed a good gap after being outrun until the last five-sixteenths. MILL IRON was unable to reach the leaders. BAGDAD faltered after going a half. MARNY was never a factor. BONNY LIBERTY was outrun. A claim of foul lodged against the winner was not allowed. PLAVFIELDS moved up on the outside through the back stretch but was unable to go along with the first two. Won handily; second and third driving. MOLASSES BILL, permitted to trail his company until swinging from the back stretch, went into contention with a rush, wore down TOP STAFF when reaching the stretch, opened up a good lead and was not fully extended at the close. TOP STAFF raced to the front going to the first turn, shook off AMERCUP to draw clear and, rated along under slight restraint, was unable to cope with the bid of the winner and barely lasted to hold SAXONIAN safe. The latter moved up through the back stretch, but was unable to better his position to any great extent thereafter, although holding on stoutly in the drive. BLUE CASTLE, a forward factor from the start, dropped back nearing the stretch, permitting BUSY MAN to draw clear, then swung to the outside of the leaders and, responding gamely to hard riding, was along in the closing strides. BUSY MAN, well placed throughout, disposed of CHALDESE for the lead and, drawing clear when nearing the stretch, fought it out stubbornly but just failed to cope with the closing bid of the winner. OSO, away slowly, moved up gradually leaving the back stretch, but was unable to make up any appreciable amount of ground on the leaders during the stretch run. BETTYS BROOM was unable to keep up after showing brief early speed. SENEGA failed to threaten. CHALDESE saved ground on the first turn and" showed in front when reaching the back stretch, but began dropping back midway down the far side of the track.
