Look for Twelve Fillies To Go Postward in Acorn Mid-Week Race Forerunner of Coaching Club American Oaks ELMONT, L. I., N. Y., May 18. The Acorn, first of the Metropolitan turf seasons "classics" for three-year-old fillies, will attract a" starting field of perhaps a dozen, it was indicated today at Belmont Park. The Acorn is a forerunner of the Coaching Club American Oaks and is a test of one mile, with an added value of 0,000. Most interesting of the probables are Belair Studs Vagrancy, heroine of the recent Pimlico Oaks; Foxcatcher Farms Selima winner, Ficklebush; Breckenridge Longs Carroll winner, Equipet and Maj. C. V. Whitneys classy Mackerel. Others considered possible starters in the Wednesday headliner include Col. E. R. Bradleys Big Doings, Brookmeade Stables Smiles, W. W. Crenshaws Zaca Rosa, W. Arnold Hangers Light Lady, C. S. Howards Chiquita Mia, W. M. Jeffords Red Rosetta, Lavann Stables Chuckle, Jock Whitneys The Swallow, George Wideners Umbril and W-L Ranchs Taut. Vagrancy, because of her thorough seasoning and especially in view of her conquest in the important Pimlico Oaks, is expected to be the public choice, or nearly so, in "tote" speculation in this 12th running of the Acorn. Under the conditions of the stake, each starter will carry 121 pounds, excepting maidens, who are allowed five pounds. With a dozen acceptances, the Acorn winner will earn a net prize of 0,550. Several eligibles breezed over the weekend. In Sundays slop, Mackerel went along a mile in 1:41, with a first half in :49 and six furlongs in 1:15. The big Nassau County course was good this morning, when Big Doings went a handy mile in 1:42, after a first six furlongs in 1:14.
