War Effort Aided At Maryland Farm Mrs. Williams, Mistress of Stadacona, Curtails Horse Breeding for Duration GLYNDON, Md., May 18. "For the duration", there will be a curtailment of thoroughbred breeding activities at Mrs. Charles W. Williams Stadacona Farm, near here. Mrs. Williams is too much of an enthusiast to get out of the breeding industry altogether. She also is too interested in the horse to renounce association with the competitive angle, racing. The establishment is to be placed to some extent on an agricultural basis, with foodstuffs and sheep raising the chief products. Sheep have already been placed on the farm and plans are under way to devote some ground to the production of potatoes, corn, cabbage, lettuce, string beans, rhubarb, onions, beets and strawberries. At one time there were several mares at the local nursery and consequently a considerable number of foals each spring. Things are diferent this year. The foal crop numbers six, four of which are colts. The brood mare band, too, is rather small in comparison with what it. has been. There is every reason to believe that it soon will be smaller, for prospects are favorable for disposing of four mares to a prominent eastern breeder who is increasing his holdings. Mares to Be Sold The mares about to be sold are Good Visibility, Saucy Vixen, Fizzy Water and French Doll. The first mentioned, foaled in 1933, was a winner at two, three and four, and is a daughter of Mars Pretty Day, by Ormondale, thus a half sister to the stake winner, Thursday. She was bred this year to Briarlet. Saucy Vixen, dam of the winners, Solo Dash and Saucy Singer, is a nine-year-old by Gallant Fox Exterminate, and was also bred this season to Briarlet. Fizzy Water and French Doll have not yet been mated. The former, foaled in 1932 from the St. Martin mare, Homily, is the get of the good brood mare sire Campfire. French Doll, dam of Party Dress, Dress Doll, Illusive and other winners, is an aged mare. Foaled in 1924, she is by Superman Miss Hope, by Ballot. Three of the mares foaled this year. Good Visibility has a bay filly by Brandon Mint; Saucy Vixen a chestnut colt, by Psychic Bid, and Fizzy Water a chestnut colt, by Chrysler II. French Doll is due to foal soon to Chrysler n. Other foals at the establishment are a chestnut colt, by War Hero Golden Morn, and chestnut colt, by Psychic Bid Tehani.
