Take Wing Easily Beats Best Seller in Lincoln Completes Double for Troutt Silks on Final Card of Meet STICKNEY, 111., June 19.— Mrs. Clyde Troutts Take Wing, who came out of the claiming ranks to win the Stars and Stripes and Flossmoor handicaps in Chicago last summer, scored his first victory in three starts this year when he captured I the ,000 Lincoln Handicap feature of the Lincoln Fields Jockey Clubs final program at Hawthorne this afternoon. Opposed by only Galbreath and Diensts Best Seller and Mrs. Marie Evans Shot Put, the Troutt five-year-old ran the mile and a quarter of todays engagement in the commendable time of 2:0435 and won by three and a half lengths, with Best Seller just lasting to beat Shot Put a nose for second honors. The race was deprived of some of its color when A. C. Ernsts Aletern, listed overnight as a starter, pulled up lame after a short drill this morning and was withdrawn. Aletern had won two Lincoln Fields features and was a pronounced favorite to make it three in a row in the Lincoln. In racing to his victory, Take Wing, rid-| den by F. A. Smith, followed Best Sellers pace to the head of the home stretch and I then forged to the front himself. He drew j clear of the Galbreath and Dienst horse, the j favorite in the field of three, approaching Continued on Page Two Take Wing Wins Lincoln Handicap Gives Troutt Silks Double On Final Card of Meeting By Whipping Best Seller Continued from Page One the final eighth and then had little more to do than to coast the rest of the way. Smith did not have to persevere with the horse once he shook off Best Seller. Best Seller was making his second start in two days, for yesterday he ran second to Occupation in an overnight handicap at six furlongs. The effort he expended in that race, together with the 115 pounds he shouldered today probably helped tc account for his defeat in the Lincoln. Shot Put, far back for almost a mile, rallied in the final quarter, but he fell short of second honors by a matter of inches. Take Wing was the least regarded of the three in the feature and those who supported him were rewarded to the extent of 1.80 for . The Lincoln Handicap headlined a program bringing to a close one of the most successful meetings the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club has conducted in many years, and the finale was attended by a crowd estimated at 16,000 persons. The Lincoln Fields meeting was beset by much adverse weather, but the interest of Chicago racegoers was sustained throughout the 30 days to reflect the great popularity of the sport in this area. While the Lincoln Handicap, despite the absence of many starters, held the spotlight on todays program, much interest also attached to the Clang Purse, a sprint of six and a half furlongs, in which A. C. Ernsts Alforay hung up his third straight victory and his fourth in six* starts this year. His closest rival was Busyridge, who was making his first start since early in May, while Pearl Harbor was third. Alforay Takes Command In the first quarter Busy Ridge and Alforay left their rivals far behind and battled each other doggedly all the way. Busyridge was in front for more than a half mile, but then the Ernst gelding assumed command and hald his advantage the rest of the way in spite of bearing out in the drive. In running third Pearl Harbor was a good eight lengths behind the runner-up. As second choice to Busyridge, Alforay paid .80 for . Clyde Troutts Kentown and jockey F. A. Smith made up a successful combination in the first race, a sprint of six and a half furlongs. Among the leaders from the beginning, the son of Jamestown responded to pressure in the final quarter and was in time to win by a length and a half. Mismark closed well enough to beat Meadow Dew a head for the place. The supporters of Auld Lang Syne failed to get a run for their money for he refused to break while Less Time broke down during the race and wass pulled up in the stretch. Jean Denemark Silks in Front Miss Jean Denemark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Denemark, had the pleasure of seeing her racing silks in front for the first time when Campion Hall beat 11 other two-year-olds over the five furlongs of the second race. The Blackwood juvenile, piloted by Jess Higley, outbroke his rivals and held them safe throughout, though he had to be ridden* out to win by a head from Miss U.S.O. Third to complete the dash was Margaret T., a two-time winner this meeting. Busy Line was in hottest pursuit of the Denemark youngster to the head of the home stretch, but then tired and finished out of the picture. A. Cilios Constant Aim got away with his first purse of the year when he accounted for the third race, a run of a mile and a sixteenth. Held in reserve well back of the leaders for about three-quarters, Constant Aim responded when Lyle Whiting called upon him and, moving up quickly, took command in the stretch to win, finally, by three and a half lengths. The victory was popular for Constant Aim was installed the favorite in the field of six. Afghanistan was best of the others, while Ras Taffari was third to complete the distance. In running third, Ras Taffari bumped into Millo near the end and probably cost the latter that share of the purse. American Flyer, a two-year-old owned by Mrs. Albert Sabath, made an auspicious racing debut by winning the five-furlong fourth race, a contest for maiden juveniles. Durazna, Miss Dogwoods half-sister, showed the most early speed, but American Flyer was right after her and, upon reaching the final straightaway, the Sabath colt took comamnd, drawing clear to win with two and a half lengths to spare. Durazna quit in the drive and wound up fourth, second money going to Zacapet and third to Valdina Clown. Whatever chances Sirius might have had was forfeited when he broke poorly.
