Riverland, Harold Clarks Fine Racer, Is Destroyed AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 19.— Riv-erland was destroyed by Dr. N. E. Southard at Belmont Park at 11:30 this morning. Harold Clarks noted five-year-old son of j Coldstream — Edith A. sustained an injury finally pronounced irreparable when he fractured the socket of a whirlbone at the I start of last Saturdays Carter Handicap at Aqueduct. He was insured. Acquired by the Louisiana Farm while he was yet performing in ,000 claimers in the Chicago area, Riverland came East last autumn to progress steadily to a big "name" horse status in stakes along the Atlantic seaboard. His victories include the Laurel Stakes, Westchester Handicap, Riggs Handicap, Hawthorne Speed Handicap and Hawthorne Autumn Handicap. In the Westchester, at Empire City, he encompassed the topweighted Alsab, and in Pimlicos Riggs humbled Whirlaway, under similar circumstances as to weights. His total earnings in 1942 were 6,675. Among other races this year, he won the Dixie.
