Ayarpee, winner of the first three-year-old handicap at Rosehill, will be retired to the stud at the end of the current racing season next August. The filly, who is by; the Italian sire Brueghel, was bought for j stud purposes by W. J. Smith, who sold | the great New Zealand sire Beau Pere to j Louis B. Mayer and operates the St. Aubins ] Stud, Scone, New South Wales. Sires at1 the St. Aubins Stud include the imported French horse Genetout, Hua, sire of Bing | Crosbys Australian filly Miss Hua, and Beau Peres gallant son Beau Vite. The : Brueghel stock has been very successful in Australia, and among his best winners are ! Art Union, Soho and Ajax brilliant half I sister Hesione. Fillies by Brueghel filled the placings in the rich Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick early this season. Red Rosebud, a mare who did not lie down to sleep for six months after she brake her pelvis in a race several years ago, | is the dam of twins. The babies, a colt and I a filly, by the Valais horse Glenariff , were j foaled at G. N. Magills Erambie property, Molong, New South Wales. Red Rosebud received her serious injury in a fall at Rosehill and was in slings for 18 weeks to keep the weight off the break. To get her to his Rooty Hill Farm, Randwick, trainer i J. King built a special box* around Red Rosebud while she was still in slings and lifted the mare, box and gear into his; horse float. Even after the injury had knitted sufficiently to allow her to walk, King would not allow Red Rosebud to lie down. Every night for another eight weeks she was walked into the slings again and was hung up until morning. Veterinary surgeons here say it is not unusual for a mare with a broken pelvis to produce foals, but they know no other case of twins in such circumstances. Sydney jockey R. Parsons has had seventeen falls in his riding career, and fifteen of them have been through his mount falling over other horses. Parsons has won many of Sydneys richest turf prizes and was astride the Sydney Cup winner, Veiled Threat, last year. He is a vigorous! horseman and one of Australias most ac- ! complished riders over a long route. Harold Badger, one of the greatest jock- j eys Australia has produced and rider of the famed Ajax, suffered serious injuries in a motor car accident near his seaside home. Bittern, Victoria. He broke his left; leg and had several ribs fractured near the heart. Will Kerr, Sydneys noted timekeeper, carries a lucky omen to the races. It is a matchbox holder, on which is painted a picture of jockey Ted Bar tie, who first rode ■ winner for him twenty years ago. Bartle ! won the Berala Handicap at Randwick on| Kerrs Manitoba colt, Modulation, but he! was suspended for two months for careless! riding. Not so lucky for Sydneys wealthiest jockey. Jockey Fred Kay rode the six winners of all six races at Townsville, Queensland. February 13 last. This unusual feat has previously been performed on the same course when jockey W. Thomas rode all seven winners about fifteen years ago.
