Capable Officials For Camden Meet Healey, Brown and Cleary Again to Serve in Stewards Stand During 50-Day Season CAMDEN, N. J., June 19— Garden State Parks official racing family will be virtually the same as last year, according to appointments made early this spring by Eugene Mori, president of the New Jersey track. Walter H. Donovan is in charge of the physical operation of the 50-day meeting opening here on July 7, Mori said. He will be supported by the departmental chiefs and racing officials of national prominence who launched Garden State Park as Americas newest racing grounds in 1942 with notable success. Mortimer M. Mahony, dean of mutuels directors, again will be in charge of the wagering divisions. J. Douglas Geddes, whose famous uniformed "Geddes Gate-men" direct the service to the patrons at the gates and in the stands, will have his men on the grounds under the supervision of his chief assistant, John Boylan. Charles J. McLennan, racing secretary at Pimlico, Hialeah and Suffolk Downs, will be in charge of the racing department. Thomas J. Lyons will be comptroller, Capt. Stephen Ryder chief of track police, and Jimmy Loftus, director of publicity. Represents Racing Commission Thomas J. Healey, prominent American trainer for more than a half century and now steward at the Fair Grounds track in New Orleans as well as director of racing at Pimlico, is the steward representing the New Jersey State Racing Association. Healey also volunteered to supervise the improvements to the mile racing strip. Serving in the stewards stand with Healey will be Edwin J. Brown, West Coast official and now steward at Suffolk Downs, and A. J. Cleary, Florida state steward. Dr. Garnett Summerhill, of Camden, will be track physician. Dr. James L. Lindsay, of Union City, serves as state veterinarian in charge of the saliva test, and Drs. William S. Miller, of Haddon Heights, and Elwood G. Fodder, of Haddonfield, will be the paddock veterinarians. Under secretary McLennan will be George Snow, Sidney S. Brown and Hart Dernham, placing judges; O. T. Pons, clerk of scales; George Palmer, starter; Al Nun, timer and stall superintendent; William Doyle and Emmett A. Hileman, paddock judges; and William Brennan, John R. Pryce and William Doyle, patrol judges. Emmett A. Hileman arrived a few days ago from Miami to open the registration . office for horsemen. He will also check and arrange the stakes nominations, which closed here last Tuesday. Horses already are breezing over the resurfaced mile track. Under the experienced eye of Tom Healey, the racing strip has been greatly improved by the application of 50,000 cubic yards of graded sand and loam, and its cushion is deep and springy.
