Joe Houston, Lexington Owner and Breeder, Dies Campaigned Racing Stable in Parnership With Brother, Sam LEXINGTON. Ky., June 19. — Joe Houston, aged 55, well-known Lexington horse owner and breeder, died here at St. Joseph Hospital last night. He had been ill since September 9. With his brother, Sam Houston, he operated the S. and J. Houston stable. He owned the race horses Country Ace, Sweet Wine, Nogalo, Lucky Main, Red Rose and Wee Betsy. He was a native of Bourbon County, but had lived in Fayette County for the past 35 years. Three years ago he began devoting his entire time to the racing and breeding of thoroughbreds. Prior to that he was a large tobacco grower and was connected with the Geary-Wright tobacco warehouse here. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and the Merrick Lodge 311, I. O. O. F., and at one time served as deputy sheriff of Fayette County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rachel Gaines Houston; two daughters. Misses Edith Mildred and Betsy Lee Houston; three sisters, Mrs. Winston Spears, Fayette County; Mrs. Matt Lair, Bourbon County, and Mrs. Cora Smith, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and three brothers, Sam Houston, Bourbon County; Will Houston, Lexington, and Ben Houston, Cythiana. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m., tomorrow Sunday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home here. Burial will be at Paris, Ky.
