Bell Reports Keen Interest in Breeding in Old Mexico FERRIS, dalif., June 19.— Ray Bell, former polo player and Del Mar official and for the past few seasons agent for the stables of Louis B. Mayer, has returned from a trip to Mexico City. He brings glowing reports about the turf sport in the neighboring country and is particularly enthusiastic over the possibilities for breeding good thoroughbred stock below the border. During his visit to the Hipodromo de las Americas, Bell met several Mexican soprtsmen, many of whom were desirous of entering the breeding industry and they seemed anxious to replenish the stock already on hand with thoroughbreds from the Mayer farms. Several mares from Ferris have been shipped to breeding farms in Mexico within the past few months and Bell states there is a possibility that a few sires now standing in California may be sent across the international line. Bell states that reports are current in the Mexican capital that a fall meeting will get under way perhaps some time in October and will be extended until late spring or early summer of 1944. Interest in the current season increased rapidly with the more important stakes coming up. Mexicans interest in thoroughbred horses has increased by leaps and bounds since the old days of Tijuana.
