Beats Stymie Neck As Aqueduct Ends Brann Miss Holds to Narrow Lead Through Stretch Under Strong Hand Ride by Jessop AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 22. Aqueducts summer meeting came to an end today before 33,780 persons, the smallest Saturday crowd of the New York season. Mayor ODwyer, whose 5 per cent city tax is having a marked effect on attendance and wagering, was on hand to count the crowd and study the flickering figures on the "tote" board. The 0,000 Brooklyn Handicap that brought the meeting to its climax proved a thriller, with W. L. Branns filly, Gallorette, charging to a neck victory in the mile and a quarter fixture, staving off the powerful closing rush of Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Stymie, who proved unequal to the task of conceding 10 pounds. The winner was greeted by a generous round of applause, mingled with a few unsportsmanlike boos for Stymie, who was a 3 to 5 favorite. Col. E. R. Bradleys Burning Dream finished more than four lengths away in third place, a neck before Sunshine Stables Lets Dance. Job Dean Jessop turned in a perfect ride on the daughter of Challenger n. Laura Gal, and she paid .30 as second choice. The time of 2:05 is par for the Aqueduct strip this season, though the slowest of any Brooklyn since it has been run at a mile and a quarter. Race Worth 1,100 to Winner Gallorette earned 1,100 as her share of the added money, bringing her gleanings for the year to 8,810. Jessop, Arnold Kirkland and A. DeLara shared honors dividing the first six races equally, but Jessop came back and rode Skylighter in the seventh. Lets Dance was first to show in front at the start of the Brooklyn, far up at the head of the stretch, but was quickly joined by Helioptic and Ekyad. As the field swept past the stands- the first time, Helioptic led Ekyad by a head, while Pindus was several lengths behind in third place before Gallorette, who was moving toward the rail, while Stymie was a distant last. Rounding the clubhouse turn, Gallorette was carried a trifle wide by Pindus, who had moved up along the inside, and Helioptic had drawn clear a couple of lengths before Pindus and was lapped on the filly, while Ekyads brief bid was over. Going down the far side it became clear that the race was to be a duel between Gallorette and Stymie, for the filly clearly dominated the leaders, while Stymie began to close fast along the rail. It was just a question of his ability to make up the vast distance under 128 pounds. Gallorette took the lead coming into the stretch, while going a little wide, and Stymie saved enough ground to draw almost Continued on Page Four Gallorette Game Victress Over Stymie in Brooklyn Continued from Page One level with the Brann filly. Gallorette had no quit in her today, however, and stuck it out gamely under Jessops urging, though Stymie drove on valiantly and cut her margin to a dwindling neck at the wire. Jessop hit the winner once at the top of the home lane and again at the eighth pole, then settled down to a strong hand ride. Hedley Woodhouse was aboard Stymie and his ride cannot be faulted. After the race, Jessop said he thought that Stymie had headed him just after the stretch turn, but the western rider was the only one who thought so, though Stymie did appear to draw almost level. Last years riding champion made it a triple when he piloted Walter S. Homes Sky-lighter to a head victory over H. Bentleys Jolly Soul in the seventh race.
