Lady Mayflower Annexes Detroits Lassies Event Earns Half-Length Verdict Over Ginnys Pride as 21,987 Look On FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 22. A crowd of 21,987 was greeted by a fast track and the first day of clear weather in a week at the Fair Grounds today and this combination was satisfactory to Bomar Stables Lady Mayflower, who proved best of the band of a dozen juvenile fillies who met in the ,000 Lassies Handicap. At the end of the five furlongs the daughter of Rhodes Scholar was driving to earn a half-length margin over Green Acres Stock Farms Ginnys Pride while only a head away Henry Forrests favored Rembird was third. The winner was ridden by Nick Coule, was timed in 1:01 and paid 3.60. She had scored the first success of her career earlier at the meeting. Little Stings had the most early speed of the band racing before Rembird while the eventual winner was improving her position on the outside and Ginnys Pride was not far away. In the home lane Little Sting was unable to retain her advantage and Rembird, Ginnys Pride and the winner charged in close alignment with the Bomar filly taking the close decision on the outside as Ginnys Pride ousted Rembird from the place award right at the wire. Many Lands, under the silks of Al Well-man, duplicated his winning performance in the Cadillac Handicap two weeks ago when he was an easy winner of the George Continued on Page Thirty Detroits Lassies Handicap Taken by Lady Mayflower Continued from Page One M. Hendrie Handicap. The son of Discovery covered the six furlongs in 1:13, the same time he required to win the Cadillac, to lead home A. F. Walls Hi Gallant by five easy lengths. There was a tight fit for place honors, as T. D. Buhls early pacemaker, Likeasnot, was only a nose away before A. Graf fagninis "Rip Away, and Mrs. B. Hernandez Bold" Question brought up the rear of the small field. Ted Gordon, an 18-year-old lad from Odessa, Fla., was astride his first winner when he scored a nose victory with J. Fer-raras Rewarded in the first race, a six-furlong claimer in which novice riders competed. Forcing the winner to the limit came A. J. Halliwells Yankee Notions, while H. Cantors On Board was third, one length away. The winner was overlooked in the wagering and returned 6.40 and was timed in 1:16. Interest was added to the Tunning of the second race when Gordon Potter was graduated from the ranks of the novice riders when he piloted Grissom and Shermans Trimdem to a length victory against open jockey competition. Victory Sweep was second and Ballacolas third. Potter had won eight races as a novice. Trimdem was an outsider in the wagering and returned 2.60 and, coupled with Rewarded, winner of the first race, completed a Daily Double worth 30.10, one of the largest Daily Double payoffs at the meeting.
